Emerald the dearest centre in CQ for fuel: RACQ

The State’s peak motoring body has revealed motorists in Emerald were stung 14 cents per litre (cpl) more at the bowser than those in other central Queensland cities during May.

According to RACQ’s Monthly Fuel Price Report, motorists in Emerald paid an average of 157.6cpl for unleaded petrol (ULP) last month, compared to 143.2cpl in Gladstone and 147.1cpl in Rockhampton.

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said indicative retail margins in Emerald were also high at 14.6cpl.

“We see fuel companies charging much more in Emerald are than they are in Gladstone and Rockhampton, where the indicative retail margins were far lower at 3.9cpl and 6.7cpl respectively – there’s simply no good reason for it,” Ms Ross said.

“It’s unfair Emerald residents are being charged a higher price – just a few hours east drivers are being offered much more competitive prices.”

Ms Ross said regardless of the town or city they filled the tank, drivers needed to shop around for the best deal.

“Our message to drivers is simple – only fill up at the servo selling for the lowest price. Make sure you spend 30 seconds before you jump in the car on one of the apps or websites, like RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder, to find out the cheapest price in your area,” she said.
