Gold Coast Bulletin reported a petition had started to connect a public road to the existing road bridge over the Gold Coast rail line and use it as a link between Old Pacific Highway and Kosciuszko Circuit in Pimpama.
RACQ Head of Public Policy Rebecca Michael said, once constructed, the bridge would likely ease traffic congestion on Yawalpah Road.
“It would create a useful link between the Gainsborough Greens housing development, the proposed Pimpama Train Station and new shopping centre,” Dr Michael said.
“The new road and bridge will provide an alternative route for motorists and pedestrians, redistributing traffic away from the congested Yawalpah Road and resulting in less delays, frustration and potential for crashes.”
Dr Michael also urged the Federal and State Governments to fast track upgrades at Exit 49 of the Pacific Motorway to reduce delays along Yawalpah Road.
“The Exit 49 interchange is a main cause of congestion along Yawalpah Road, more so than the current single lane each way Yawalpah Road bridge,” she said.
“The Federal Government has committed $50 million in total for Exits 41 and 49, however the Queensland Government has said this was only half of the necessary $100 million required from the Morrison Government to deliver both upgrades. We need both levels of Government to step up and bridge those funding gaps as soon as possible.
“We want Queenslanders to spend less time in congestion and more time with their families.”
