According to RACQ’s latest monthly fuel report the average price for ULP was 148.1cpl in April.
RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said while there had been an increase in the global oil price which had put upward pressure on the cost of fuel, many retailers had taken it too far.
“Fuel is at the mercy of many global factors and lately we’ve seen Brent crude oil hit record high monthly average price for 2019 of $US71 a barrel,” Ms Ross said.
“While the high price of oil did contribute to the increase in April, the frustrating news for drivers is many fuel companies took the opportunity to increase retail margins and we saw those margins increase by 5.4cpl.”
Ms Ross said prices remained high in the city in May and drivers needed to shop around for the best deal.
“Our message to drivers is simple – only fill up at the servo selling for the lowest price. Make sure you’re using apps and websites like RACQ’s Fair Fuel Finder to find out where the cheapest prices are in your area.”
