Building blaze shuts down street

The State’s peak motoring body has warned commuters to avoid Vulture Street in South Brisbane, after it was closed due to a building fire on Thursday morning.

RACQ spokesperson Clare Hunter said emergency services had been on scene since 6am to and had closed Vulture Street in both directions near Appel Street while they fought to contain the blaze.

“There’ll be long delays, so it’s best drivers use an alternative route and try to avoid the area,” Ms Hunter said.

“Smoke is visible across much of the city, so if you’re behind the wheel it’s also good idea to put your lights on so you’re more visible to other traffic.

“You can visit RACQ road conditions for up to date information on road closures before you set off.”
