It came as the Department of Environment and Science warned very large high tides were forecast on Fraser Island along with Teewah and Rainbow beaches on Good Friday, which would peak at 7.45am and 8.15pm.

RACQ spokesperson Clare Hunter said parts of the beach would be impassable and drivers should heed the warnings.

“Motorists should exercise caution at all times, and plan to travel within two hours either side of low tide and avoid travelling around high tide,” Ms Hunter said.

“It’s important drivers check the conditions before heading out and also watch out for erosion. Don’t risk getting caught out and spoiling your long weekend.”
