Man airlifted after ute slams into tree

A courier has been airlifted by RACQ CQ Rescue after he was lucky to sustain only minor injuries when his ute slammed into a tree near Valkyrie on Thursday.

The 72 year old Andergrove man was driving along Fitzroy Development Road, more than 120 kilometres south west of Mackay, around 6am when his vehicle left the road and hit the tree.

RACQ CQ Rescue, with a doctor and Critical Care Paramedic on board, flew direct to the scene and landed in a paddock beside the crash scene.

The patient suffered minor chest and head injuries and was airlifted to Mackay Airport before being transferred by ambulance to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.
