RACQ Head of Technical and Safety Steve Spalding said speed checks conducted by the Club found many riders travelled too fast.
“Nearly 90 percent were seen riding in shared pedestrian areas much faster than they should be,” Mr Spalding.
“Speeding puts the rider and nearby pedestrians at risk of serious injuries, it’s vital that you ride at a safe speed and pay attention to the speedo on the .
“If you’re speeding, you have less time to react to a situation when passing pedestrians, particularly young children who often move in an unpredictable manner.”
Mr Spalding also reminded scooter riders it was a requirement to wear a helmet.
“We’ve already seen a spate of serious injuries and wearing a helmet can protect you from a head injury – it’s really a no brainer,” he said.
“We also want Lime to ensure every scooter put out has a helmet attached.”
