Keep your home secure during flood clean-up

A new threat has emerged for Townsville residents hit by record floods, with reports looters had targeted some of the worst-affected communities.

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said locals who had begun the clean-up, also faced a possible double blow as Queensland Police urged property owners to be mindful of opportunistic thieves.

“It’s heartbreaking to learn some residents are now being dealt another cruel hit after already losing so much,” Ms Ross said.

“If have been able to return home and begin the clean-up, opening windows and doors is an important step to dry your property. But it’s also important to make sure your home is secure.

“We don’t want householders to experience further unnecessary loss.”

Ms Ross said additional RACQ insurance claims staff were in Townsville and property assessors had commenced the job of meeting with RACQ members to progress claims.

“If you haven’t lodged your claim, you can start the process online or call 13 7202.”
