Townsville suburbs including Idalia, Rosslea, Hermit Park and Railway Estate were among those hardest hit, making up almost half of the total number of claims alone.
RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said the Club expected further claims from these areas, with rising floodwaters likely to affect even more.
“We’re anticipating an increase of claims in these locations along with places like Annandale and Aitkenvale,” Ms Ross said.
“We know the Townsville area received between 50mm and 150mm of rain overnight and a further 20mm is forecast to fall today, so while water levels are receding in some places, in others they’re sadly still rising.
“Residents still need to pay attention to the warnings and obey the instructions of authorities.”
Ms Ross said the Club understood it was a stressful time for many families and reassured its home and contents policyholders they were covered for flood.
“Right now, we really just want them to take care of themselves and their families – we’ll handle the rest,” she said.
“If you’re ready to make a claim, you can start the process online or give us a call on 13 72 02.”
The Club’s Mobile Members Centre and a fleet of response vehicles continued to make their way north to Townsville, where they would soon join the recovery effort.
