RACQ spokesperson Kirsty Clinton said with Queensland fuel prices higher than ever, the discount could be an opportunity for drivers to save when filling the tank.
“Fuel’s one of the biggest expenses for Queensland families so we’re really pleased to be able to offer this four cent per litre (cpl) discount to our members through Pacific Petroleum,” Ms Clinton said.
“The fact is Queensland’s fuel market is dominated by the majors and the supermarket chains, and we need more competition from the smaller chains and independents to drive down prices.
“We know Pacific Petroleum is one of the cheaper retailers going around – a challenger brand to the big players like Coles Express and BP. It’s why we’d urge our members to do their research before filling up and, if it’s a good deal, take advantage of this discount and save yourself some money.”
Ms Clinton said although RACQ had entered into partnerships with Pacific Petroleum, and also Puma Energy, the Club remained an independent advocate of drivers shopping around for the best fuel price.
“Despite any discount that may be on offer, our advice to motorists is to always shop around for the cheapest possible servo you can find in your area,” she said.
“Our independence and campaigning for lower fuel prices is unchanged by our agreements with retailers like Pacific Petroleum and Puma Energy. In fact, it’s written into the agreement that RACQ’s advocacy on fuel prices is sacrosanct – and no money is exchanged between RACQ and these organisations.
“We’ll remain fearless and independent in our advocacy and lobbying for lower prices, regardless of who we partner with.”
About 420,000 RACQ members had already benefitted from discounts at Puma Energy retailers and saved a total of $4.85 million on fuel.
