The advice came as the Brisbane unleaded petrol (ULP) market entered the cheap phase of the south east Queensland petrol price cycle.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said the Brisbane ULP average was 138.7 cents per litre (cpl).
“If you’re in the south east, now’s the time to fill the tank – prices are cheap, but is still expected to drop a bit further in the coming days as the cycle bottoms out,” Ms Smith said.
“Drivers should aim to buy petrol selling for 135cpl or less – that way they’ll know they’re getting a good deal.”
Ms Smith said while most south east centres were cheap, the Sunshine Coast lagged behind.
“We’re used to seeing a slower rate of discounting on the Sunshine Coast which means drivers there should hold off for a few more days if they can,” she said.
“However, as always, there are cheaper spots in most centres to fill up, so do your research by visiting racq.com/fairfuel and find out where the best deal is in your area.”

- Brisbane – 138.7cpl
- Gold Coast – 138.2cpl
