Drivers in the south east urged to fill up now

As the price of petrol sold in Brisbane dropped close to wholesale, RACQ has urged south east Queensland motorists to snap up the cheap fuel available.

On Wednesday, the average price of unleaded petrol (ULP) in Brisbane had fallen to 126.5 cents per litre (cpl), while the wholesale price retailers paid was 123.6cpl.

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said indicative retail margins had narrowed significantly this week as the market reached the cheap phase of the south east Queensland petrol price cycle.

“Prices are cheap across much of the south east –  petrol in Brisbane has dropped by as much as 5cpl in the past few days alone,” Ms Ross said.

“Motorists in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and Moreton Bay should fill the tank today while there’s still cheap fuel around – aim for a fair fuel price of 126cpl or less for ULP.

“If you’re on the Sunshine Coast, you’re paying a bit more for fuel than other locations in the south east because retailers are less competitive. However cheaper is available and motorists should buy now and aim to buy for 130 cpl or less.”

The latest daily average price of ULP in south east Queensland:

  • Brisbane 126.5cpl
  • Moreton Bay 125.8cpl
  • Ipswich 125.5cpl
  • Gold Coast 126.2cpl
  • Sunshine Coast 133cpl.
