The Cairns Post reported the 47 year old man was nabbed doing 177km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Bruce Highway near Cowley on Monday.
Police were left gobsmacked to discover the man had already been disqualified for speeding. His motorcycle has been impounded for 90 days, following the repeat offence.
RACQ’s Lauren Ritchie said all road users needed to realise if they were going to speed, they should expect to get caught.
“It’s alarming the number of motorists who have been caught speeding, especially during the festive break,” Ms Ritchie said.
“These people not only risk losing their licence thanks to demerit points, but are also risking their lives and the lives of other road users.
“The road rules are there to keep us all safe and repeat offenders should feel the full force of the law.”
Cairns Road Policing Unit Senior Sergeant Preben Farbaek told the Cairns Post the incident was “just stupidity”.
“Now he’s got 90 days to think about how stupid he’s been and hopefully not do it again,” Senior Sergeant Farbaek said.
“It would be his family who would be paying the price if something had happened.”
The man has been scheduled to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court next month, after being charged with driving whilst disqualified and exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
